Eating Mumbai's Best Food with a Local Girl. 🇮🇳

Eating Mumbai's Best Food with a Local Girl. 🇮🇳 I had heard that Mumbai was the foodie capital of India so I planned an afternoon of eating and exploring. The variety of foods available in the city is so plentiful that I could never eat everything that I wanted to try in one day. That's why I enlisted the help of a local friend to help me share the portions. It's easier to try many different dishes when you have someone eating half your meals.

We started off at Gulshan E Iran, near where I'm staying at the Crawford Market area. We tried their signature dish, Chicken Kheema Pav. Kheema is minced meat with some Indian spices and Pav is fluffy bread.

We then travelled 6km to a small local restaurant called Noor Mohammedi to try their Mutton Biriyani which was the unbelievable price of 40 rupees. That's about $0.50!!!

Just down the street from there we found a fancier restaurant. The furnishings, cleanliness and the quality and presentation of the food were first world standard. The price for our Chicken Tika with 3 Chapatis though was still only 150 rupees. I'd be eating there every day if I lived in that area. Maybe even multiple times per day.

With 3 main meals in our bellies it was time to explore for sweet food. I knew Mumbai would be a good city for sweets because when I was in Sri Lanka all the sweet shops were called some variation of 'Bombay Sweet Shop'. Bombay of course being the English name for Mumbai.

At one very colourful sweet shop I tried Barfi for the first time. It tasted to me the same as the Kulfi I'd eaten at the Chowpatty Beach.

Across the road was a bakery with an owner so nice that he gave me two slices of delicious plum cake for free. FREE! That man really knows how to make a Scotsman happy.

Walking up thirst in the sweltering Mumbai mid-afternoon heat, we came across a juice shop that was beautifully decorated with colourful fruits. I love these shops in India because they are everywhere and perfect opportunity to re-hydrate and take in a ton of vitamins at a reasonable price. And you don't get any fresher than drinking fruit that was juiced just 10 seconds before you drink it.

More sweetness came by way of Naturals Ice Cream. We actually planned to go to a more local ice cream place that is famous for its Ice Cream Sandwiches but unfortunately it was closed. Naturals was our Plan B. It's a famous chain restaurant in Mumbai (and maybe elsewhere in India?) that sells a variety of ice creams with natural ingredients.

Somehow we managed to go from all that sweet food back to savoury food. Usually once I start on the sweets that's all I want to eat but I really wanted to try the famous Pani Puri. It took a bit of asking around to find a good one but we certainly found it and it was my favourite meal of the day.

All of that grub was washed down with sugar cane juice. Twice!

Hope you guys enjoy the long videos. More will be coming soon.
