Below is a summary of the video:
1. Be Present
- When you say affirmations, say them in the present tense, as though they are already true and a reality in your life today
- We do this to help you change your state, making you more focused on what state and individual you are, not necessarily what you wish to be or hope to become
- This principle is key to belief, as when you believe what you say, it will be signficantly more impactful in your life compared to when you don't fully buy into the affirmation
- ...which leads us to our next point in the list...
2. Believe
- An affirmation won't work if you don't believe what you are saying, as the doubts and hesitations in the back of your mind will prevent you from fully adopting what you say you are
- Therefore, if you struggle to believe the affirmation "I am going to be a massive success", reframe it to be something you can fully embrace, such as "I am going to continue to endeavour towards being successful no matter what"
- The second statement made here is much more believable, as not only is it well within your control, but something that is much more tangible to achieve
- Here, the key is belief, as you need to believe in your affirmation to have a chance of it being meaningful and effective
3. Use "I am"
- When you make an affirmation, use the phrase "I am" where possible, and if necessary rephrase an affirmation where you can to incorporate it
- This is because this idea of "I am" links back to our original point, which is to speak not only in the present tense, but to make the affirmation something you can state with absolute belief
- Say "I am" performs both actions in one fell swoop, whereby your affirmation is both true and completely believed to be true
- Making the affirmation well structured and extremely powerful when used day to day as a reminder of who you are and where you are headed
4. Use Emotion
- When you feel emotion, this can help you feel significantly more invested in it, whether it be a book, a movie or an affirmation
- The more invested you are in your affirmation, the more significance it will hold to you, meaning you are more likely to act towards making it a reality if it isn't already
- Our emotions can be extremely powerful in our behaviour, helping us taking actions far beyond our capabilities if we let them, but at the same time holding us back if they are negative
- So understand and use your emotions where you can, using them to positively make progress towards your goal and be true to who you want to be
5. Incorporate Action
- An affirmation isn't just about who you are, but equally about what you do and so to make a strong affirmation, incorporate action
- This can take many forms, for example being sensitive to the needs of others and providing them with all of the support that they need
- Or alternatively, about being someone who takes action working towards their long term goals, regardless of how they might feel and what obstacles lay in front of them
- After all, affirmations are incredibly powerful, but without action to back them up, they're nothing more than dreams
