So, when is a Good Time to Catch Big Bluegill and Sunfish from the Bank? Right now! A rainy spring day is a great time to try your luck for some large panfish including bluegill and sunfish. I just caught a 9.5 inch red ear sunfish and I couldn't be more happy. This is my biggest sunfish so far this year! I also caught a few big bluegill and of course a couple small ones. This kind of fishing is easy enough for anyone to try but it can be challenging to actually catch a big one like this. Good luck out there! #panfish
