China successfully launched the final component of its Beidou navigation system in Xichang this Monday, completing an upgrade to satellites begun more than a decade ago.
The system, known as BDS-3, is similar to existing Global Positioning Systems (GPS), and transmits precise time and location information to capable devices with greater accuracy than its predecessors.
Competing systems are currently being developed by the United States and Russian governments, which have undergone delays due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
