This video shows the process of water gilding with genuine gold leaf, using a mixture of red bole clay and rabbit skin glue as an adhesive. The technique is less wasteful (and less stressful) because it uses wax paper to apply the gold leaf, preventing it from getting too messy. The gold must be varnished to make it permanent.
