Do it whenever you feel incapacitated by powerful feelings of misery and anger - you may find it helps you process these feelings and let them go over time.
During the lockdown, many of my students from ages of 14 -19, who I teach online, were very, very miserable and some were angry. I felt so sorry for them, so I have put together a series of exercises, meditations and mantras to share with them and hopefully plant a seed and give them tools to help them transform their negative mind.
When you are under aged 25, energy-wise, you are just budding and bursting your wings and only want to explode out into the world - this lock down was especially hard for you all....
Filmed in my rewilded garden (I just planted lots of trees 15 years ago and now its like a copse or a glade in a forest) in Berkshire with my dog, I hope you like them and that they cheer you up....and let me know how you get on.
So this one expels anger. It allows you to put it on the work bench of the mind, be aware of it and transform it. The movement and mantra are also fun!
When you feel angry, analyzing or suppressing it may not be effective because it’s like adding fuel to a fire. Instead, this is a simple and safe exercise to expel anger quickly.
Do you sometimes feel irritated, frustrated or angry without clear reason? Or you are probably angry with clear reason at present under lockdown - we are all confined to a small space with no escape..it's hard!
These aggressive emotions can color your perceptions and experiences, yet you don’t know where they come from or how to deal with them.
Much of our anger is stored in our subconscious mind. That’s why we often do not have a clear understanding of the source of our anger.
And analyzing or suppressing it may not be an effective way to deal with anger because it’s like adding fuel to a fire. It may actually be more effective to find safe ways to exhaust or transform this powerful energy.
Practicing it regularly has helped me release stress, irritation and anger, and promote tranquility and peace. It’s not only strengthened my body, but also strengthened my mind.
It only takes 5 minutes and it truly makes a difference.
First sit in an easy pose, with your legs crossed and spine straight. (Or rock pose) Extend your arms to the ground with elbows relaxed.
Now make tight fists with your hands and bend your elbows at a 90-degree angle. Keeping your elbows bent and hands fisted, open your arms wide, as far as you can.
Then simultaneously sweep your arms back and forth across your diaphragm, like you’re flapping a pair of wings, right arm to the left, left to the right, alternating one over the other.
Keep a consistent rhythm and synch your movement with your breath, inhaling when you open your arms, exhaling when they cross. Make the movement forcefully and repeatedly without touching your body.
While moving your hands, chant the mantra “HAR” loudly. HAR is a powerful mantra that helps us connect with the creative aspect of the infinity.
Practice for five minutes. It’ll quickly put you in a state of trance, expel inner anger, and neutralize your mind. In a few days, you’ll notice a significant difference – less irritation and anger, and more peace and joy.
Try it out, and let me know how you like it.
